Council congratulates yachties on white wash win of Louis Vuitton Cup (This is about as gratuitous a release as Hubbard expressing sympathy with Auckland over its dead tiger)

Auckland City Council congratulates Emirates Team New Zealand on their 5-0 win of the Louis Vuitton Cup over Luna Rossa.

"We are right behind Emirates Team New Zealand in their quest to bring the Auld Mug home," says Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard. (Team NZ will be hugely concerned with having such a band of incompetents being right behind them.)

"All that stands in their way now is a rematch with Alinghi, (most blitheringly obvious statement of the year) and we're confident the boys can secure a victory," he says. (they'll actually need five victories to bring the cup home.)

Auckland City Council will look into options to give Aucklanders the opportunity to share America's Cup fever and watch the action together. Details will be publicised once confirmed. (So no idea what to actually do, but something WILL be done! NB: transpires Hubbard wants to put up video screens in public spaces so people can go out into the wet Auckland winter at 3am to shiver in front of video screens).

"We are ready to host the next America's Cup in Auckland, and we hope Aucklanders show their support as it comes down to crunch time," says Mr Hubbard. (With Hubbard's track record, the cup is going to Dubai or Sydney. Or He'll put the boat race in Carlaw Park.

The Thirty Second America's Cup regatta kicks off on 23 June, weather depending. (The Auckland elections kick off in mid September, come rain or shine)
