Madonna – who urged people to reduce their carbon footprint, the measure of an individual's carbon emissions, at the event which was staged to raise awareness of environmental issues has a crbon footprint bigger than Africa, well almost.
John Buckley, managing director of Carbon Footprint Ltd, said: "It's OK for pop stars to preach to us, but it will be better if they look at their own lifestyles to reduce their carbon emissions."

Madonna – who lives in London's Marylebone with her director husband Guy Ritchie – owns five other homes in the English capital, as well as a Wiltshire country estate, a property in Hollywood and a New York apartment.

The average CO2 emissions from all nine properties add up to around 91,000kg a year.

The 48-year-old's two gas-guzzling Range Rovers and four other cars create an estimated 8000kg of CO2.

Madonna recently took two 8000km return trips to Malawi to adopt son David Banda, and travelled to the Maldives for a romantic break – clocking up approximately 176,624kg of emissions.

The singer's 2006 Confessions Tour dramatically increased her carbon footprint – the 56 worldwide dates churned out around 650,00kg. It is claimed Madonna is producing an estimated 1,018,372kg of CO2 annually – the average British person creates around 10,000kg.
