Wikia to take on Google and Yahoo in search

Wikia hunts Google with new web search service – 30 Jul 2007 – NZ Herald: Technology News from New Zealand and around the World

Wikipedia founder jimmy Wales is turning his attention and sights on Google. Wikia has bought Grub a pioneering web crawler that will enable Wikia’s forthcoming search service to scour the web to index relevant sites.

The new Wikia search service will combine computer-driven algorithms and human-assisted editing when the company launches a public version of the search site toward the end of 2007.

They will have their work cut out for them taking on multi-billionaires Google at their own game. I will watch and try with interest.
