NZ Medical Association: Democracy itself would be harmed

Again a National organisation has serious concerns over the EFB. This time the NZ Medical Association.
The proposed definition of "advertisement" is so wide (and the exceptions are so limited) that in its present forrn the Bill would seem to prevent NZMA from making media statements or putting anything on its website that relates to a position taken by
one or more parties or candidates. This goes well beyond the intent of the Bill and unreasonably stifles the right of the public to freedom of expression.

Such restrictions would place intolerable constraints on our organisation, to the point where our entire raison d'etre could be threatened. We also feel that democracy itself would be harmed if legitimate objective debate is stifled by this draft bill.
