An interesting vignette about Sir Edmund Hillary's very public once only foray into very public politics with his backing of the ultimately doomed "Citizens for Rowling" campaign.

Since that time of course Sir Ed has been the darling of Labour, David Lange in particular seemingly granting his every wish.

Nevertheless, Sir Edmund was a hero of New Zealand and it is not his fault that Labour clings to anything remotely positive when daily the news is filled with reportings of their hapless government.?
