Go Dirty – McCarten

Matt McCarten: Labour could learn lesson from Clinton’s dirty attack strategy – 09 Mar 2008 – Politics: New Zealand Political News, Analysis and Comment including 2008 election coverage – NZ Herald

Matt McCarten’s usually astute political mind has deserted him this morning. He has suggested that labour should up the ante and go real dirty on John Key. He applauds Labour’s “Slippery John” attack this week.

I think Matt and labour are wrong. I truly hope that they do go dirty and then we will see National’s and Key’s poll result go even higher. Going dirty will simply show Kiwi’s that Labour are out of touch with them, that they are venal and self serving and only seek to govern for governing sake.

The public will see through that strategy and will vote accordingly and deliver defeat to Labour, and not just a small defeat, potentially it could be a party destroying defeat.
