On the Road

I decided to take the Blogmobile on a short roadtrip to find out the foibles of this machine.

I took the pod on friday night up to Trounsons Park and stayed at the Kauri Coast Top Ten. Great facilities, really beautiful spot but no cellphone coverage or internet. So no blogging there. Will ahve to return though as the place is simply beautiful.

Today we headed off to vist the Trounsons Park area for the 40 minute bush walk. Very pretty, lots of massive Kauri, really well set up. then we drove to Waipoua Forest to see Tane Mahuta. That thing is fricken massive. the road is a prick though especially with 9m of Blogmobile. The scenery is beautiful though.

After that it was over the hill to Opononi and lunch at Rawene at the Boat Shed Cafe, then through a dirt road to Wairere Boulders near Horeke.

This was the highlight of the day. on private land the owner is a Swiss immigrant who is very personable and put a great deal of time an effort into the area. it is simply amazing even off the beaten track. the road there is arduous and not for sooks or homo drivers. I am fair knackered after driving the manual Blogmobile over the ruts and corners of that road. However it was well worth it. The scenery in this little valley is simply stunning. I highly recommend taking the detour to see this. Thanks to Barnsley bill for telling me about it.

After that we drove to Kerikeri and am now off for a searingly hot shower to wash out the travel crinkles.

Tomorrow will be the kids first visit to Paihia, Waitangi and Russell before heading home via a couple of battlefield sites I have always wanted to see at Ohaeawai and Ruapekepeka.

Internet connectivity is sparse so blogging in full will resume tomorrow.
