Third mobile network coming soon

Paul Reynolds has blogged about the upcoming launch of the third mobile network player in August.

NZ Communications Ltd gathered a raft of news cameras, journalists, tech correspondents, and some bloggers to Gus Fisher Gallery at the top of Shortland Street in Auckland to launch the name and the logo for their brand new mobile network, 2degrees

Not this blogger, and that could be bad for 2degrees. Depending on the love that is showered upon me this could be the last post I ever make about them.

Right enough of the begging.

Apparently they are going to build a 2G, 3G and HSPA+ capable network – [900MHZ, 1800MHZ and 2100MHZ] Until it is live they will piggyback on Vodafone, so in theory that means all you need is a new SIM card, and you keep can your old number.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens now and what effect they will have on pricing. I suspect not much but we’ll have to wait and see.
