When someone who has found fame dies young, it creates a mystique of legendary proportions.? Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse all belong to a rather exclusive group of musicians and singers who died at 27.

When they died, their fans, deep in mourning, wondered what they would have done next.

The term “27 Club” was first used in Rolling Stone magazine after the death of Jim Morrison in 1971 after Jones, Hendrix and Joplin had all died within a span of a little over the two previous years. ?

Only Kurt Cobain had an actual post mortem ruling suicide. Jones, Hendrix, Joplin and Winehouse had findings of accidental or death by misadventure, though Jones was found in his swimming pool.

The official statement made by authorities was that The Doors? front man, Jim Morrison, died from heart failure, even though his heart was deemed healthy just prior to his death.

However, many fans do not believe that is what really happened.

This disbelief in the official story stems from the fact that an autopsy was not performed due to the fact that the examiner did not suspect foul play.

Also, in the days following Morrison?s death, there was a media blackout concerning the event. Immediately after his death and during the media blackout, people began theorizing as to what they thought really happened to Jim Morrison.

The details of what actually happened on July 3, 1971, the night of Morrison?s death, are not exactly clear. What is known is that Pamela Courson, Morrison?s long-time girlfriend, found him dead in the bathtub of their Parisian apartment.

It seems that French medical examiners found no evidence of foul play and ruled Morrison?s death a result of natural causes.

According to the Morrison?s obituary, ?Morrison had seen a doctor in Paris last Saturday about a respiratory problem and ?complained of this problem on the day of his death.?

Incredibly, after Morrison’s body was found in his apartment, no proper investigation into his death was carried out.

The official stance was that 27-year-old Jim Morrison died of heart failure. This determination was made without the medical examiner performing an autopsy.

Morrison?s age, the lack of an autopsy, and the fact that his passing was not announced until four days after his death sparked a flurry of alternate theories about what ?really? happened to The Doors front man.

An alternate theory about Morrison?s death was outlined in 2007?s?The End: Jim Morrison. The French book, written by Sam Bernett, states that Morrison actually died in the bathroom stall of the Rock and Roll Circus nightclub.

Bernett claims that Morrison died in the stall of a heroin overdose. When his body was discovered, his corpse was transported back to his apartment and placed in the bathtub.

In an interview with Bernett, USA Today wrote, ?Though Bernett says he wanted to call the paramedics and authorities, the club?s owner ordered him to keep quiet to avert a scandal.?

Jim Morrison was buried at the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, and his grave has since become one of the city’s top tourist destinations.

Morrison remains one of the most legendary and mysterious rock and roll stars of all time. He was a gifted lyricist whose poetic odes to rebellion set to the music of The Doors, inspired a generation of disaffected youth who found in his words an eloquent articulation of their own hopes and frustrations. His tragic early death at the hands of drugs and depression likely deprived the world of much more in the way of beautiful music and poetry.

  • ?On April 25, 1974, Pamela Courson, Jims long-term companion died of a heroin overdose aged 27.
