Radio New Zealand reports

The company’s general manager, Linda Trainor, said they had been told a car caught on fire on a street near the Westfield West City complex.

Ms Trainor said the centre had been evacuated as a precaution and nobody had been injured.

Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident.

The Fire Service, which is leading the response, says it cannot comment until it has a better idea of what is happening.

More reports mention a van rather than a car. ?An explosion is said to have occurred. ?There are no reports of injuries or fatalities at this stage. ? The source of the van explosion will probably remain unknown for some time, but could include accidental explosion due to what the van was carrying, a mobile P lab, and the one we dare not speak out loud until more information comes to hand.

60 firefighters are on the scene, and the centre has been evacuated. ?Onlookers aren’t currently asked to move further away. ? It is reported that although the shopping centre has sprinklers, the car park does not.
