I follow local charity SmileDial on Facebook. What they do to help children and their families is inspiring. Today’s face of the day is one of two gutsy boys who did what I will never do. He jumped out of an airplane. I am way too scared to ever do anything like that but these two despite feeling scared did it. Well done boys you rock!

ASB Bank & SmileDial Breaking Boundaries Free Falling Event”
1st March 2015

Due to an amazing donation from ASB Bank we have been able to provide some awesome SmileDial kids with some amazing adventures. Yesterday two kids Broke the Boundaries and skydived from 12 000 feet above Canterbury.

One of the kids decided very soon after lift off in the plane that he was not keen and asked the plane to land. After speaking with his parents it was decided he would stay in the plane to the jump height and then he could decide if he would jump or come down in the plane(it was his decision to make and there was no pressure). We all watched anxiously from the ground as we saw the first kid exit the plane, about 10 seconds later we saw the next kid jump, a HUGE roar erupted from the crowd including his family and friends, he had done it.

This is what these Breaking Boundary events are for, we want to take kids to the edge of their comfort zones and support them as they break the boundaries. We want to show them that their special needs do not define who they are or what they can do, there are no limits except those they believe are there. Yesterday two kids broke the boundaries and today maybe they are a little more confident and without a doubt will be very proud of what they achieved.

This weekend we will take four kids (and a parent each) on another adventure that will again push them to the limits of their comfort zones. We will be spending a weekend white water rafting, camping, swimming and fishing. The kids (and parents) will face challenges and fear in a controlled and safe environment and we will support them as they face the fear and break the boundaries. Each kid will finish these events with a new outlook and will know that they can do what they (and others) thought they never could.

Thank you to MakingTrax, a company that specializes in making these activities available to people with all types of special needs.

There are Boundaries, you can either accept them or break them.
