How do we interpret the huge Northland early votes?

Residents Vote In Mana By-Election

Northland voters are flocking to the ballot boxes ahead of Saturday’s by-election, with latest advance numbers showing nearly 8,000 have already voted.

Nearly 1200 votes were cast yesterday, bringing the overall total to 7,800.

That compares to 9,400 overall in last year’s general election.

The Electoral Commission’s advising people to plan ahead, particularly if they’ll be out of the far north on Saturday.

Early votes generally mean that people have a strong feeling and they are no longer listening.

There is an undercurrent, as if the Northland electorate has woken from a slumber.

And I’d blame the Cricket World Cup final, but that on Sunday.

The unthinkable is happening, like a slow motion car wreck. ?Mr Fixit Joyce has run out of magic bullets.
