Sepuloni admits to defrauding the taxpayer

Labour MP Carmel Sepuloni’s mother has admitted to benefit fraud charges in the New Plymouth District Court today.

Beverley Anne Sepuloni appeared along with her partner Michael Charles Rangi and was charged with fraud worth almost $100,000, the New Zealand Herald reports.

Sepuloni faced 19 counts of fraud totalling $33, 856 while Rangi was charged with 4 counts totalling $62,351.

Sepuloni was accused of claiming the sickness benefit and applying for the disability allowance when she shouldn’t have, as well as claiming rent subsidies she wasn’t entitled to.

Carmel Sepuloni has been temporarily stood down from her position as social development spokesperson while the case continues.

The couple will reappear in court later this month.

It was so stupid to stand her daughter down at the time. ?What is Little going to do now? ?He can’t possibly reinstate her after the case has completed. ? Surely Carmel remains as conflicted as the daughter of a benefit defrauding cheat after the case has completed?

What a mess Little got himself into here.
