And the funny thing is, we pour a lot less into the atmosphere these days. ?And yet we are told it’s worse than “back then”.

A small story written in 1912 on the effects of coal burning on climate change that appeared in the Rodney and Otamatea Times and Waitemata and Kaipara Gazette has gone viral.

The item, headlined ‘Coal consumption affecting climate’, appeared in the August 14 editions of the Fairfax Media newspapers 104 years ago and has been picked up and shared by New York Times journalist Andrew Revkin.

It has since been shared on Twitter by former US vice president Al Gore, from where it has been shared hundreds of times.

Nothing wrong with a warmer planet. ?The deserts are greening. ?More people can grow crops. ?It’s all kind of awesome.
