Face of the Day

Ross Taylor’s deteriorating eyesight has been attributed as the reason for his poor Test batting form.

New Zealand management confirmed Taylor will see an eye specialist to diagnose a condition which has worsened over the last 12 months.

Coach Mike Hesson says the 32-year-old is in doubt for the second Test against Pakistan in Hamilton starting on Friday.

He played little part in in the eight-wicket win in Christchurch, scoring 11 in the first innings and didn’t bat in the second, with Henry Nicholls promoted to No.4 as New Zealand closed on their winning target.

Hesson is unclear how serious the condition affecting Taylor’s left eye is and whether it has longer-term implications.

However, he has no doubt it has progressively affected the former captain’s batting.

It could also explain why he constantly runs his partners out. ?If he can’t see where the damn ball is, who is holding it, or whether his batting partner is actually coming back or is staying put.

Hope he gets it sorted, but he clearly let this go too long.
