Bill is not John

A Newshub-Reid Research poll has shown English is placed on 25 per cent in the preferred prime minister ranking.

This leaves English 11 points behind where John Key ranked in the preferred Prime Minister stakes in August last year.

Key averaged more than 40 per cent support during the majority of his tenure except last year when he fell to 36.7 per cent – Key’s worst.

English’s results are the lowest figure for a sitting Prime Minister in the last 10 years, the last being Helen Clark during her final term in charge.

John Key had cross-party voter support for being a prime minister. ? Even those not voting for National could see that he provided a steadying influence. ?You just have to see how things have started to wobble since he left to see the difference.

The only things keeping National in power are the desperate fear of a Labour/Green government, and the hope that Winston will remain true.

Labour are quite excited by these developments. ?Steal a few percentage points from the Green party, earn some back from people who can’t stand a Bill English-led National, make a well performing NZ First an offer it can’t refuse and hey presto!

The opposition haven’t even started running hits on English like they did with Key. ?Key was polling in the forties while the left and the media were trying to paint him as some sort of sexual pony tail and prison rape pervert.

Wait until those resources are pointed at English. ? What we’ve seen over the last month or so, he won’t weather it well.
