NO MORE SWEARING! When local body politicians lose the plot

The people of Rochdale will have to watch their mouths because of a proposed ban on swearing in the town centre.

Town hall bosses are planning to fine anyone caught using expletives in the Greater Manchester market town up to ?100.

It is part of a planned crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the former mill town, giving enforcement officers powers to issue on-the-spot fines for anyone caught “using foul and abusive language”.

We elect these people to do roads, rubbish and keep the grass short in our parks. ?But over the last fifty years or so they all have decided to start running their cities as if they are countries in their own right. ?

Residents aren’t the only ones up in arms over the proposed swearing ban with human rights group Liberty calling the proposal ‘bullshit’ and accusing the Council of misusing its power.

“These proposals would unjustifiably curb the rights and freedoms of Rochdale residents,” spokesperson Lara ten Caten told the Manchester Evening News.

?The swearing ban is so vaguely defined, it would prove impossible for anyone to know whether they were breaking the law or not, while a blanket ban on begging will criminalise some of the most vulnerable people in the town.?

By the time your local council is a threat to free speech, what on earth do they think their jobs are?

You’d think all the real problems have already been solved.
