NZ ranked first in the world as best place… …to retire

Best country to live? ?New Zealand ranked 13th

The ranking, by US News and World Report’s so called “informed elites”, pitted New Zealand 14th overall, while Switzerland, which is highly regarded for its citizenship, business climate and quality of life, took out the top spot.

Switzerland unseated Germany for the top spot in the US news magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s best countries, which said the Alpine nation is “a sanctuary for calm reason”.

Switzerland “appears to offer a respite from a liberal Western-led political order upended by populist sentiments and strongman politics”, it added.

The magazine put Germany in fourth behind Canada and Britain.

The United States dropped from fourth to seventh – a decline linked to the election of Donald Trump as president.

Nearly 75 per cent of respondents said they had lost respect for the US in some degree because of the toxic tone of last year’s campaign.

Australia was ranked eighth.

Despite ranking 14th overall, New Zealand did manage to top the list as best country for a comfortable retirement

No wonder we have people rushing here. ?It’s the best place to sit back and wait to die.
