Black coffee

In case you missed it. Starbucks are in trouble for failing to allow a couple of black men free use of their bathrooms, resulting in the company being accused of policies that are blatantly racist.

Well, in an effort to counter these claims, Starbucks has announced that they will now allow anyone to use their bathroom facilities, whether they are customers or not.

What could possibly go wrong with this policy?

This from??NZHerald?Quote:

Starbucks has told employees to let anyone use the restroom, even if they haven’t bought anything, as it reviews its policies and tries to restore its reputation after the arrest of two black men at a coffee shop in Philadelphia.

The coffee chain said it wants all customers who come in “to feel welcome” and it’s conducting a three-month review of its guidelines. That follows comments from Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz said he didn’t want people to feel “less than” if they were refused access.

“We don’t want to become a public bathroom,” said Schultz, “but we’re going to make the right decision a hundred percent of the time and give people the key.” End quote.

You don’t want to become a public bathroom? Well, guess what? You have just invited every man and his dog to use your facilities as often as they like and for whatever purpose they like. Just think about that for a second. Quote:

Starbucks had maintained a “loose policy” on bathroom access, though decisions were ultimately left up to store managers on whether someone could use them. At the Philadelphia store where the two men were arrested April 12, it was policy to ask people who hadn’t bought anything to leave.

The men, Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson, who were asked to leave after one was denied access to the bathroom. They were arrested by police minutes after they sat down to await a business meeting they had scheduled. The incident was captured by people using cellphones and went viral, leading to protests. End quote.

Looks like someone made a mistake in refusing to give the men the bathroom key. It happens. Having them arrested is definite overkill. But to go from that to allow every vagrant, drug user or drug pusher to use the restrooms for whatever purpose they wish is commercial suicide. Very soon, people will be avoiding Starbucks in droves, not because they are racist, but because they have every kind of undesirable hanging around their premises. They won’t even think about using the toilets. No one in their right mind will want to go near them now.

Once again, just like with the grooming gangs in Telford and Rotherham and just like the police in Europe, everyone is more afraid of being seen as racist than anything else. The very fabric of Western society is falling apart because the worst thing in the world is to be called a racist.

It is understandable that Starbucks does not want to be labelled with a racist tag, but there are a lot of ways they could have solved this rather than committing commercial suicide. The two black men who were arrested came to a settlement with Starbucks that included a free college education. That was a wonderful outcome. Why didn’t Starbucks make a bigger deal out of that instead of allowing the misuse of their business premises by all and sundry?

How much do you want to bet that the LGBGTI community in?Philadelphia start demanding special bathrooms at Starbucks stores, just for them, with no requirement for them to purchase anything?

So next time you are looking for somewhere to park your laptop and write your thesis, just wander into the nearest Starbucks and stay as long as you like, using their wifi. I strongly recommend that you don’t buy any coffee there though, as you would not want to use the restrooms. You just don’t know what you might find in there.
