Fake news Time

They say a picture tells a thousand words. The photo of the poor, drowned child on the Turkish beach in 2015 was what set off an outpouring of grief and, in its own way, the beginning of the downfall of Europe. Sadly, that was not fake news, as the child was really dead, but it turned out that his father had been part of the people smuggling ring and was actually steering the boat.

This week, the rampant left in America, desperate to get a king hit on Donald Trump, have told stories of how children are being ripped from their parents’ arms at the Mexican border, in order to try to turn the tide of growing support for the President, and make him look like the ogre that they believe he really is. Here is the ‘powerful’ cover of Time Magazine:

The heading “Welcome to America” is deliberately misleading, because the child is an illegal immigrant, and the policy of the current administration is to stop illegal immigrants from pouring across the border. So, it is not a case of “Welcome to America”. As an illegal immigrant, she was never welcome.

But the story goes much further than that. It wanders into the territory of pure fantasy.

First, here is the actual photo:

Yes, the child is crying, but she is standing right next to her mother, who is being searched by border security guards. Not actually so terrible really, is it?

The photographer, John Moore, at the border in the search of another Getty Images award for a shot that makes history, had been hanging around the Rio Grande for over 7 hours. The photo was real enough, but the back story was mostly made up. The child was never taken away from her mother. She was put down, her mother was searched, and then she was picked up again, and the two of them were put into a van together.

This from? The Washington Post speaking about the photographer, John Moore. Quote:

He knew that when loners crossed the river by day, they tended to run or hide from Border Patrol. But the large groups that crossed at night?often surrendered themselves to the first U.S. agents they found.

The night-crossers were often families, exhausted and terrified from their journeys, seeking asylum from?whatever terror had driven them from home. End quote.

Sounds dreadful. But after the photo had been sent around the world, the father of the little girl surfaced. And the true story is very different from the one that the photographer has implied. Quote:

In Honduras, Denis Javier Varela Hernandez?recognized his daughter in?the photo and also?feared that she was separated from her mother, he told The Post.

But he said he learned this week that?his 32-year-old wife and daughter were, in fact, detained together at a facility in McAllen. End quote.

If we go to?The Daily Mail UK, the story gets much worse. Quote:

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Hernandez, who lives in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, says that he was told on Wednesday by a Honduran official in the US that his wife and child are being detained at a family residential center in Texas but are together and are doing ‘fine.’

‘You can imagine how I felt when I saw that photo of my daughter. It broke my heart. It’s difficult as a father to see that, but I know now that they are not in danger. They are safer now than when they were making that journey to the border,’ he said.

Denis said his wife and daughter were never separated by border control agents and remain together.

A spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has told DailyMail.com that Sandra had been previously been deported from the US in 2013.

The spokeswoman said that she was ‘encountered by immigration officials in Hebbronville, Texas’ in and sent back to Honduras 15 days later under ‘expedited removal.’

Sandra?current immigration proceedings are ‘ongoing’ and she is being housed at a family detention center in Texas.

Denis said that his wife had previously mentioned her wish to go to the United States for a ‘better future’ but did not tell him nor any of their family members that she was planning to make the trek.

‘I didn’t support it. I asked her, why? Why would she want to put our little girl through that? But it was her decision at the end of the day.’End quote.

So the mother was an economic migrant who has entered the US illegally before, and was sent home. It didn’t stop her doing it again, against the father’s wishes, and risking her child’s life, as well as her own, on the journey.

Remember how the father said he was glad they were in custody because he now knew that they were safe?

This is a disgraceful manipulation of the truth for political purposes by President Trump’s detractors. Every day, there seems to be a new low.

But just in case you are not convinced, here is a photo published by the child’s father of the family together in Honduras, not long before the mother undertook the hazardous journey with her daughter.

Doesn’t look as if they need to ‘seek asylum from?whatever terror had driven them from home’, does it?

Time Magazine has issued an ‘update’ but not a retraction to their story. But this won’t be the last. No news outlet can be trusted nowadays, because they all carry a political agenda. The truth never enters into the frame any more.
