Fake news defends the fake news; well, I?ll be darned

Last week President Trump lambasted the negative coverage he receives from media and the apparent bias he detects in google-search results of current events. He is, of course, completely correct, as any conservative current-affairs tragic knows. We rely on our own, trusted, news-feeds to get a more balanced view.

Piqued at their bias being called out the anti-Trump cohort threw together a rebuttal, published at lefty Aussie site ?The Conversation? Friday and duly carried by various New Zealand sites yesterday including Stuff who ran it under the headline ?Google News serves conservatives and liberals similar results, but favours mainstream media??, while Newshub went all-in with ?Why Trump’s claim of Google News bias is the real ‘fake news? above the identical piece.??

Far from rebutting Trump; the piece, in fact, proves his point about dishonest reporting from the very opening paragraph where a completely false premise is attributed to Trump: ?Google News does not deliver different news to users based on their position on the political spectrum, despite accusations from conservative commentators and even President Donald Trump?

Trump did not say that; his tweet read: Quote:

Google search results for ?Trump News? shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. End quote.

Trump was saying the outlets favoured by conservative readers are effectively shut out of results, not that results are biased according to user-data, and after waffling along on the false premise for 300-odd words the authors of the piece get to the data, proving Trump is correct at the same time: Quote:

?Of all the Google News recommendations we collected, a full 49 percent ? nearly half ? were to just five national news organizations: The New York Times, CNN, Politico, The Washington Post and HuffPost. And those five, much like other mainstream news organisations, tend to be seen as centre-left.? End quote.

?Just five? outlets who ?tend to be seen as centre-left? dominate fully half of all results. Let?s be clear; there is no ?centre? about it, they are leftist outlets pandering to a leftist readership. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck; it is a duck.

Pew Research, in a series of articles investigating political partisanship published in 2014, researched readership of prominent mainstream media sources in the USA and scaled the outlets across their readership?s political leanings; this is what they produced:

As you can see; the readership of all those outlets is parked clearly left in Pew?s result spread, most at least as far left as Fox News is perceived as right, yet Fox News receives a meagre percentage of ?google news? filtered results while Trump-agitating CNN, watched by a smaller audience than ?The Cartoon Channel? receives a much larger share of results.

Human experience tells us google?s results are biased, research tells us their results are biased, but most importantly; left-leaning MSM run stories trying to convince us that our eyes deceive us and that no bias is present, which is enough proof in itself, for me, that claims of no Google bias are fake news; and Trump is right, again.
