Multiculturalism is an unmitigated disaster

Douglas Murray believes that criticism of multiculturalism has become mainstream in Europe and liberal Americans who say otherwise need to wake up. Murray says in his memo to the Washington Post: Quote.

?Because in their [Washington Post] intense, untraveled parochialism, Reinhard and Brown appear to think that there is something odd or out there about being ?a critic of multiculturalism.?

Allow me to let them into a secret: In Europe today, absolutely everyone is a critic of multiculturalism ? prime ministers, presidents, even the chancellor of Germany is a critic of multiculturalism.

Eight years ago Chancellor Merkel said it had been a failure and three years ago she described it as a ?sham.? This was even reported in the Washington Post, which wrote up the 2015 speech in which the German chancellor also said, ?We want and we will reduce the number of refugees noticeably.? End of quote.

It would be wishful thinking to expect that New Zealand media, mindlessly drooling over anything produced by America?s left-leaning media, would listen to an opinion contrary to the merits of multiculturalism.

If we are to learn anything from Europe?s mistakes we have to be open-minded on the subject instead of merely slapping a racist label on critics.

Murray talks about the recent debates in Sweden prior to their elections. Quote.

?Consider the final leaders debate before Sunday?s election in Sweden. At one point in the debate the head of the Moderate party (the Moderate party) attacked the prime minister over integration and its purported ?successes.? Which successes was he thinking of, asked the head of the Moderate party? What was the prime minister happiest with? ?The shootings? The unemployment?? He went on to list all the negative consequences of mass immigration that his country is experiencing.? End of quote.

The poor ol? Swedes have had a very tough time of it, thanks to the EU and the political debate drew pertinent comments from across the political spectrum. The UK correspondent covering the debate said: Quote.?

[The] actual debate itself offered a fascinating glimpse into how much the debate has shifted in Sweden ? with leaders of all parties offering immigration-related facts that make a British listener gasp.

We had seven party leaders, most of whom expressing views that they?d have denounced as racist not so long ago.? End of quote.

Point is, the facts speak for themselves. The facts are that Swedish immigrants are four times more likely to be unemployed, with numbers the same in Britain. The main reason for unemployment is the failure of the newcomers to integrate, leading to a segregated society where the immigrants are on the outside – by their own choice, not that of their hosts.

Ulf Kristersson, the conservative opposition leader promised more policeman to deal with the mess the government had overseen, including gangland crimes and murders. He said: Quote.?

?Swedes can see all around them the consequences of a failed integration policy: gangs, criminality and welfare dependency. Look at the suburbs, look at the shootings: 320 casualties last year and 32 dead (yes, dead) so far this year.? End of quote.

Jan Bj?rklund, liberal party leader, said: Quote.

All parties should admit they have waited too long to discuss Swedish values. He declared he has changed his mind on an important issue: he now thinks religious groups should not run free schools. Why? Because, he said, Islamists (yes, Islamists) are running free schools.? End of quote.

Ebba Busch Thor, the Christian Democrat leader said: Quote.

Multiculturalism had led to a failure to be clear about Swedish values which has led to ?hedersf?rtryck? (honour repression). It means when children flee repression abroad, only to end up victims of repression in their own homes due to brutal (Islamist) practises. Sweden?s National Board of Health and Welfare has estimated, for example, that 38,000 women in Sweden have been exposed to some form of genital mutilation). Busch Thor offered her own statistic: 240,000 youths live under such repression in Sweden. More police are needed to deal with this, and a special category of ?honour crimes? introduced in law.? End of quote.

We need to get our own values sorted out before the choices to do so are taken from us.

Hungary was never sucked into the taking migrants in the first place, despite EU attempts to strongarm them into it. Prime Minister Victor Orb?n said recently: Quote.?

A few months ago… there was an election in Hungary. The Hungarian people decided what should happen, and during the election campaign we discussed all of the issues ? including CEU, the NGOs, and all of the important political issues. And the people decided on these issues. And now the European Parliament is taking upon itself the task of overruling the decision made by the people of Hungary and forcing the Hungarian government to implement what they are attempting to impose on us in place of the people’s decision.” ? Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb?n. End of quote.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijj?rt? reinforced the Hungarian view that they do not need more migrants. Quote.?

Hungary and the Hungarian people have been convicted because we have proven that migration is not needed and that it can be stopped.End of quote.

Listen up New Zealand because the same thing could happen here. Dismissing discussion on important issues like immigration by calling it hate speech is just hiding our heads in the sand.
