They don’t give a STUFF about facts and balance

He is not really Hitler of course ( we apologise for the left-wing style label) but you get the joke, don’t you Stuff?

STUFF – Stifles Truth Using False Fables

Following on from the excellent article about Stuff not being a free speech site any longer (if it ever was) it is appropriate to have a look at their stance.

The Stuff article says: Quote.

This project accepts a statement that shouldn’t be controversial but somehow still is: climate change is real and caused by human activity. End quote.

Stuff?editor, Patrick Crewdson said. Quote.

Our position on the points you?ve raised is simple:

1.?We accept the overwhelming scientific consensus ? as represented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ? that climate change is real and caused by human activity. In that light, providing ?balance? from denialists is not a poor service to our audience ? it is actively dangerous.?This is not a true debate with two equivalent sides, where the views of the scientific consensus and denialists are of equal weight. end quote.

A quick look at the IPCC Charter document in Annex 7, “PRINCIPLES GOVERNING IPCC WORK” shows that the IPCC is specifically tasked with looking at human-induced climate change. Quote.

2. The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the?scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of?risk of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.?IPCC reports should be neutral with respect to policy, although they may need to deal objectively with?scientific, technical and socio-economic factors relevant to the application of particular policies.

3. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process. Since the IPCC is an intergovernmental body,?review of IPCC documents should involve both peer review by experts and review by governments. End quote.

The IPCC is not tasked with investigating climate change, if any, to see what may be causing it.? Is it the sun; is it?Milankovitch cycles; is it Russian bots (they seem to be responsible for everything else wrong with the world); is it something else?

The IPCC is specifically set up and tasked with looking at human-induced climate change.

Is it surprising, then, that every utterance from the IPCC blames climate change on humans? What do humans do that could possibly have any effect?? Ah, yes, they use petroleum products which have CO2 as a byproduct. Let’s make that tiny fraction of the atmosphere the dominant cause. Therefore CO2 causes human-induced climate change.

Okay, that is simplifying the path they took somewhat, but they cannot possibly stay true to their charter unless their output talks about human-induced climate change.

STUFF – Stops Those Using Firm Facts

Paragraph 3 of the IPCC Annex 7 quoted above says, “Review is an essential part of the IPCC process”.? And although Stuff says that “Audience participation is crucial to Stuff’s content and character“,?Stuff?has decided that review is not essential and audience participation will be heavily censored.

They have categorically stated, “The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into” or words to that effect. There will be no review while Crewdson has his finger near the Delete key.

STUFF – Stories Told Utterly Forsaking Facts

Their article contained this gem: Quote.

By 2018, our world has already been irreparably altered by human-induced climate change. End quote.

Not a single fact is given to back up this alarming broad brush statement.? In fact, I challenge Stuff to back that statement with facts.

At least Crewdson was honest enough to slip back into “global warming” mode instead of the nebulous “climate change” mantra. Quote.

The price of global warming will appear in our food supply, our insurance premiums, our transportation options, our access to water, and many other facets of everyday life. End quote.

This is a good thing as the global warming is not happening the way that the IPCC predicted, but sending Crewdson a graph from the agencies that monitor this, which clearly shows the discrepancy, would not be appreciated. His mind is firmly made up.

STUFF – Suspends Truth, Utters Fictional Fallacies

No one disputes that the climate is changing: it always has, it always will. We live in a very dynamic, chaotic climate system.

What is disputed is whether humans can induce any change and, if so, how much.? The problem for those of us who question the current dogma is that with a starting premise of being tasked to assess human-induced climate change, the answer is always going to be that climate change is human induced.

Slam dunk!
