Of course we are all on the same side!

Houses being demolished for the busway

With great fanfare the Labour Minister of Housing announces 33 completed Kiwibuild houses. Meanwhile, in the city where the housing needs are most desperate, the Labour led council demolishes 61 houses because the Labour Minister of Transport favours bus lanes and public transport.

I certainly would not want to be in the same room when the Labour Minister of Housing ‘has a quiet word’ with the Labour Minister of Transport about this fiasco! There will be feathers flying and blood on the floor, that’s for sure! quote.

Months of work to get 33 houses built all undone in a flash and now the housing crisis is worse by 28 houses.

Oh dear! Quote.

Work to remove 61 Auckland Council owned properties to make way for the new Eastern Busway route has begun.

The properties all sit along the Panmure to Pakuranga stage of the Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI).

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff attended the demolition site on Pakuranga Road on Thursday morning.

He said the $1.4 billion project will bring “high-frequency public transport to east Auckland along with significantly improved facilities for motorists and faster connections for walkers and bike riders”. […] End quote.

All good then – better for public transport, motorists, walkers and cyclists. Everyone is a winner! Maybe not the 61 families …Quote.

“I would like to see better travel options available to our local people and I see AMETI as a real milestone for east Auckland”.

Panuku and AT are working closely with social housing organisations to ensure an effortless adjustment for tenants of these properties and neighbouring residents. End quote.

Oh, they were rental properties, so now the rental situation is worse than it was before as well.

Never mind, they were probably ‘killer’ houses anyway.
