Born today in 1899 or 1900, singer, songwriter and guitarist. ?Sleepy? John Estes.

Born today in 1938, songwriter and singer Etta James (Jamesetta Hawkins). She was big influence on many later singers including Janis Joplin.

Born today in 1945, Dave?Walker?singer with several acts including?Savoy Brown and?Fleetwood Mac.

Born today in 1950, Michael Cotton synthesiser with The Tubes.

Born today in 1953, Malcolm Green drummer with Split Enz (76-81).

Today in 1964, The Beatles went to number 1 on the US Cash Box chart with “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. (Their first US number 1). It would go to number 1 on the Billboard Top 100, 1 Feb.
