An Inconvenient Truth

On 13 December 2008, Al Gore, while speaking at the opening of a German natural history museum, said, ?The entire North polar ice cap may well be completely gone in 5 years.?

In this graph only the years since 2005 where the sea-ice was at a lesser extent than as at 25 February 2019 are shown. Eight of the last 14 years had less ice on this day than 2019. 2007 was practically equal with the 2019 figure. Doomsday will need to be postponed, once again. Quote.

February is not over, and Arctic sea-ice extent is already over half a million square kilometers higher than last year at this day

The growing season has not ended, and 2019 Arctic sea-ice extent is already higher than the previous four [now five] years and six [now eight] out of the last 14 years.

(Updated figures since the article was written.)

Arctic sea-ice has stubbornly resisted the very warm years between 2015-2017 caused by the big El Ni?o. Are we going to see an increase in Arctic sea-ice over the next few years? Only time will tell, but the idea cannot be discarded.

Antarctic sea-ice is also growing this year with respect to last year, so global sea-ice extent is going to see an important jump this year.

Stay tuned for the March results but the ?Arctic melting pause? is alive and kicking 12 years later. It started the year Al Gore said Arctic sea-ice was doomed. Talk about timing. End quote.

But, as we all know, the science is settled, mankind is responsible and we have reached a tipping point.
