Mike

The numbers you gave at Waitangi on Maori unem… the, the Maori numbers that you gave at, ah, Waitangi claiming for the first time in a decade Maori unemployment was trending down, why did you say that when it wasn?t true?

Jacinda

Because at that time um? uh… it absolutely was.

Mike

But it isn?t. It?s been trending down for five, six, seven, eight, nine years.

Jacinda

Ah, I, I would have to go back and see exactly what you?re quoting me here Mike. But there has been a drop down to um? ah? ah? 8%… from memory..

Mike

8.9%

Jacinda

8.9% and that is ah? a significant change in direction? ah? and you know we haven?t seen decreases in unemployment of that scale keeping in mind we’ve only… we reached the lowest unemployment in a decade, um… during that period.

Mike

But you saying we haven?t seen decreases in unemployment, that?s simply not true. It?s gone from 12.5% to 11.8% to 11.7% to 11.4% to 10.1% to 8.9%. It?s been trending down for five or six years.

Jacinda

Again, I just want to go and cross check here what you’re claiming I said and what I said.

Mike

Appreciate your time. Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister for another week.
