San Francisco, you’re just not metal enough

Caption: James Hetfield bids adieu to San Francisco.

Ted Nugent is as legendary for his no-holds-barred politics as he is for his hard-rocking anthems like Cat Scratch Fever and Stranglehold. Alice Cooper is an unapologetic born-again Christian. Johnny Rotten supports Trump and Brexit. Gene Simmons is?Gene Simmons. It often seems that the harder edge of rock is the last bastion that remembers that rock?n?roll is supposed to be the sound of non-conformity.

As Nugent observed, too many rock musicians now are terrified of not being seen to conform to the stultifying groupthink of modern progressivism. After all, any artist who dares step out of the elitist echo-chamber, or even make a non-lefist-approved joke, is met with swift retribution. Just ask Phil Anselmo.

Metallica?s James Hetfield has had enough. Quote:

Metallica frontman James Hetfield says he and his family recently moved out of San Francisco to escape the city?s ?elitist attitude.? End of quote.

The left like to champion ?inclusiveness? ? while rigorously excluding anyone who deviates from their orthodoxy.

Of course, as I?ve argued before, entertainers should do their little song and dance, and just keep their idiot political opinions to themselves. Alice Cooper likewise argues that musicians should shut the hell up about politics. But Hetfield isn?t exactly expressing a particularly open political opinion, here: just railing against the hypocrisy of dogmatic elitists. Quote:

The heavy metal rocker told Joe Rogan in a Friday podcast that liberal elites in the Bay Area only accept diversity when it aligns with their social and political views.

?I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit,? Mr. Hetfield said, The Blaze reported. ?They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it?s fine if you?re diverse like them. But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn?t fly in Marin County. My form of eating organic doesn?t vibe with theirs.?

?I felt that there was an elitist attitude there ? that if you weren?t their way politically, their way environmentally, all of that, that you were looked down upon,? he added. End of quote.

Of course they?re elitist ? because they?re elites. San Francisco is the second-most expensive city in the US. Despite their professed enthusiasm for socialism, San Franciscans are some of the most privileged plutocrats on the face of the planet. Quote:

Mr. Hetfield said he and his family moved to Vail, Colorado, because his wife Francesca grew up there, and because he feels more ?at home? in the mountains where he can hunt and enjoy the outdoors. End of quote.

Hunt? Enjoy the outdoors? What a deplorable. You won?t ever see a Green voter enjoying the outdoors.
