It’s not your country any more, ‘whitey’

John Cleese

Despite the ridiculous hype, Avengers: Endgame is just another pedestrian superhero movie. Lots of capes and explosions, but not much in the way of engaging storyline or thematic depth. But it does provide an interesting glimpse of the mindset of the “progressive” left.

There’s the requisite feminism, of course, as the ultimately helpless male heroes are saved by dea ex vagina, not to mention the cringe-inducing “girl squad” moment. But the most telling moment is in the epilogue. When Captain America hands his star-spangled shield over to Falcon, the SJW-symbolism is about as subtle as being bludgeoned with Mjolnir: it’s not your America any more, whitey.

The left are furiously bludgeoning John Cleese with the same lesson about England.

Monty Python star John Cleese took to Twitter earlier this week claiming that London was no longer an English city…In 2011, Cleese “sparked fury” after he suggested multiculturalism in London caused English culture to disappear.

“London is no longer an English city and that’s how they got the Olympics.”

“They said ‘we’re the most cosmopolitan city on Earth’ but it doesn’t feel English.”

“I had a Californian friend come over two months ago, walk down the King’s Road and say to me ‘well, where are all the English people?”

“I love having different cultures around but when the parent culture kind of dissipates you’re left thinking, ‘well, what’s going on?”

Note that Cleese’ argument is entirely cultural.

“It might interest those people who seem to think my remarks about London are racist as opposed to culturalist, to consider that’s what I like about spending time in Nevis,” he said. “Nevis has excellent race relations, a very well educated population, no sign of political correctness…I think it’s legitimate to prefer one culture to another. For example, I prefer cultures that do not tolerate female genital mutilation. Will this be considered racist by all those who hover, eagerly hoping that someone will offend them – on someone else’s behalf, naturally.”

Naturally the left fell back on their go-to response, screaming “raacism!” Naturally, the Guardian leads the offenderati pack.

You have to wonder what does it mean for London not to be “English”? What does it mean to be an “English city”?

It’s quite simple: an “English” city is one whose population is majority English. That is manifestly no longer true of London. “English” is an ethnicity as well as a nationality, no less than “French”, “German” or “Chinese”. For the first time in its history, ethnic English are today a minority in London. Indeed, some 37% of its population is foreign-born. Deny it as the left will, London is unquestionably no longer a majority-English city.

One can only imagine the Guardian luvvie’s “outrage” should, say, Beijing’s Chinese or Delhi’s Indians become crowded out by a mass influx of white Europeans. Even whites “gentrifying” demographically black cities in the US is hysterically denounced for “undermining the notion of black community”.

But whites have no such privilege. If white communities are taken over, that’s “progress”. England doesn’t belong to the English.
