1980   CNN (Cable News Network, not Clinton News Network) launches the worlds first 24-hour television news network.
4000 BC   The approximate domestication of the horse in the Eurasian steppes near Drerivka, Ukraine.
1495   The first written record of Scotch Whiskey appears in Exchequer Rolls of Scotland. Friar John Cor is the distiller.
1796   The last British troops withdraw from the US. War of Independence.
1960   New Zealand’s first official television broadcast. Transmission began at 7.30pm and lasted just 3 hours.
