Social Justice Bullies

Same tactics used to discredit Trump used on Milo Yiannopoulos

I didn’t really want to write about this because I was concerned that by repeating the smear I might be helping plant doubt in people’s minds about Milo. The?tactics used against him, however, must have sunlight shone on them because they will be used against someone you support at some point and who knows, the next target could be us.

Social Justice Bullies have been trying to silence Milo for a long time. They were unable to beat him with reasoned, logical arguments,?they were unable to beat him with violent protests and they were unable to beat him by getting him kicked off twitter. No matter what they said or did Milo would pop up bigger and stronger than ever. They ignored his defence of freedom of speech, women’s rights and gay rights. They ignored his condemnation of paedophilia,?they called him alt-right and a white supremacist no matter how often he strongly denied it.

How to Destroy the Business Model of Breitbart and … Whaleoil

One day in late November, an earth and environmental science professor named Nathan Phillips visited Breitbart News for the first time. Mr. Phillips had heard about the hateful headlines on the site ? like ?Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy? ? and wondered what kind of companies would support such messages with their ad dollars. When he clicked on the site, he was shocked to discover ads for universities, including one for the graduate school where he?d received his own degree ? Duke University?s Nicholas School of the Environment. ?That was a punch in the stomach,? he said.

Why would an environmental science program want to be promoted on a site that denies the existence of climate change? Mr. Phillips figured ? correctly ? that Duke officials did not know where their ads were appearing, so he sent a tweet to Duke about its association with the ?sexist racist? site. Eventually, after a flurry of communication with the environment department, he received a satisfying resolution ? an assurance that its ads would no longer show up on Breitbart.

Mr. Phillips had just engaged in a new form of consumer activism, one that is rewriting the rules of online advertising. In the past month and a half, thousands of activists have started to push companies to take a stand on what you might call ?hate news? ? a toxic mix of lies, white-supremacist content and bullying that can inspire attacks on Muslims, gay people, women, African-Americans and others.

In mid-November, a Twitter group called Sleeping Giants became the hub of the new movement. The Giants and their followers have communicated with more than 1,000 companies and nonprofit groups whose ads appeared on Breitbart, and about 400 of those organizations have promised to remove the site from future ad buys.

?We?re focused on Breitbart News right now because they?re the biggest fish,? a founder of Sleeping Giants told me. (He requested anonymity because some members of the group work in the digital-media industry.) Eventually, Sleeping Giants would like to broaden its campaign to take on a menagerie of bad actors, but that would require a much bigger army of Giants, and ?it has only been a month since we started doing this,? he told me when I talked to him in December. Then he added, ?This has been the longest month of my life.?

One person’s consumer activism is another person’s blackmail. ?Whaleoil has suffered the same attacks where our advertisers were threatened with commercial ostracism unless they stopped advertising on Whaleoil. ? Read more »

Comment of the day

Our new guest poster and commenter Lushington D Brady made this comment on his post yesterday that helps us to understand why Social justice bullies and Left-wingers choose to be outraged and offended so often.

As Theodore Dalrymple says, “Outrage is a substitute for religion: It convinces us that our existence has some kind of meaning or significance beyond itself … therefore we go looking for things to be outraged about as anteaters look for ants. Of all emotions, outrage is not only one of the most pleasurable but also one of the most reliable”.

So what happened to GrubHub?

Cameron wrote about GrubHub a couple of days ago and there have been some interesting developments. Conservatives do not commonly employ the tactics of Social Justice Bullies but this time it appears that angry Trump supporters decided to go full retard on GrubHub on social media. I don’t blame them for “losing their shit.” Hillary supporters are rioting, smashing things, crying, screaming, defecating on Trump signs in public and waving “Rape Ivanka” and “Rape Melanie” signs around. It is enough to push the calmest Trump supporter to boiling point.

Twitter account shut down for exposing Academics poor work to ridicule

The twitter account that was shut down for peer reviewing other Academics work has been replaced with this twitter account which seems to be continuing on the work done by the first account.Social Justice Bullies declared ?war on the original twitter account when they realised that an anonymous colleague was exposing their research to ridicule.

A popular Twitter account that highlighted ridiculous academic papers from the social sciences and humanities ? some taxpayer-funded ? was abruptly deleted recently apparently because critics threatened to expose the name of the anonymous tweeter, who feared career-ending retaliation from campus colleagues.

Beating Social Justice Bullies at their own game

What are Social Justice Bullies made of?

Slugs and ?wails?and gender fluid tales, that’s what Social Justice Bullies are made of.

Until recently the Social Justice Bullies and other assorted Lefties dominated the outrageous?side of politics. They were the ones that dressed strangely and acted strangely and used ” Art ” as a means of both protest and expression. They acted like children, threw tantrums and grabbed media interest no matter how tenuous their arguments or logic. When it came to political expression they owned the stage. How could those straight-laced, prudish Conservatives ever hope to compete, restrained as they were by good manners and respect for the law?

Release the Social Justice Bullies

Social justice bullies already interfere way too much in our lives. They boycott businesses that we use, they target individuals for having the wrong opinions and now thanks to YouTube’s ?Orwellian program ” Youtube Heroes” they can now control what you can and can’t see. ?The name of the program indicates that Youtube thinks that censors are heroes whose job is to protect us from ourselves.

Youtube have cleverly harnessed the passion and self-righteousness of the SJB’s for this program. By attracting the SJB’s they have attracted a workforce prepared to work for free in exchange for the kind of power that gives them sticky knickers. Even better, the very people who usually complain constantly to online businesses like Youtube are SJB’s so this program kills two birds with one stone. Youtube has handed over the powers of censorship to their most vocal critics.

YouTube has launched an Orwellian program for users to ?moderate content.? For ?YouTube Heroes,? volunteer contributors concerned about trollish or inappropriate content?or really anything they don?t like?can connect with other ?heroes? to get ?deplorable? videos shut down. The premise is that YouTube should be a place where everyone feels comfortable because ?you deserve a place you call home.?

Really? Is YouTube a safe space comparable to hanging out in your bedroom with a bunch of friends, or is it supposed to be a place where ideas are freely shared, even those we find offensive? Evidently not the latter.
Watch the introductory video for YouTube Heroes. It?s downright creepy.

What Susan Devoy has in common with Social Justice Bullies

?I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender and therefore women of colour and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system.? Bahar Mustafa (Goldsmith?s University)

It is clear from the underlying messages in all the stories selected for the Race Relations Commission website? ?that stories of white New Zealanders will only be published if they reveal that a) they have benefited from white privilege and/or? b) have discovered some non-white heritage?of which they can now be proud (since being a “Pakeha” is a bad thing.)

Racism against a person due to them being white is a narrative that this website does not want to hear because in the Race Relations Commissioner‘s PC world racism against white people simply does not exist.

Why taking the middle ground isn’t always the best choice

It is difficult being an online business these days. Thanks to social media you are an easy target for social justice bullies and?politically motivated groups like unions. Few online businesses have the stones to stand up to these kinds of attacks and most totally capitulate, despite the fact that the attackers are not even customers in many cases. Cameron has always given the advice that when you are attacked you should never apologise and in fact, you should ” double down ” on whatever it was that you were attacked for. To apologise and to capitulate shows weakness and makes you an even bigger target.

My Food Bag is a New Zealand company known for the freshness of their products. One of the many products that they include in their food bags is Talley’s peas. It is not surprising that they use Talley’s as they are the only frozen food company in New Zealand to use exclusively New Zealand vegetables. In?other words, a New Zealand company?supporting another New Zealand company, supporting New Zealand farmers.

When My Food Bag were first attacked they did not capitulate. Instead, they attempted to find the middle ground. They handled the initial online attack by acknowledging the concerns of the attackers. They said they would look into it and they did. After completing an audit they explained that they had found that the concerns of the attackers were not backed up by facts and stated that they would continue to use Talley’s peas. They then did what I consider to be a master stroke of diplomacy. They chose to pour oil on troubled waters by giving the attackers what they wanted without actually giving into their demands.

All of a sudden I saw happy tweets from the attackers declaring victory. Apparently, that week in their food bag they had received McCain?peas. All in all, it was an excellent result but then…

McCain Foods South Canterbury workers who have travelled to Australia to fill in for striking workers from the company’s Ballarat factory have been condemned by the E t? union.

…”We are both horrified and disgusted in the action of those workers to travel that distance to be there and undermine the rights and terms and conditions of other workers,” Donaldson said.

“It is about as low as you can go.”

…”McCain has been conducting good faith bargaining negotiations with the union here in Ballarat for six months, however, the union has now instigated protected action, which limits our ability to meet our customers’ needs,” the statement said.

“We’re disappointed it’s come to this, but we believe it is important we give all our employees the right to vote on our offer to them, because it is our employees and their families who are losing money while this action continues.

“We’re confident our employees will vote for our offer, which includes a significant wage increase that is above the rate of inflation…

– Stuff

Oh dear, if you are not allowed to buy things from a company that is in dispute with its union members where will it end?
